Now I know it was

So now it's over. I think it was a very good olympics, overall.

If Yorkshire had taken part seperately from the rest of the UK we'd have finished about tenth or eleventh on the medals table. Which is higher than Australia.

Well no-one has said so. Whereas they keep saying how high Yorkshire would have finished. Not just on regional telly, but on national telly too.

So I think the answer to your question is probably 'no'.

Some things never change - Yorkshire is still the UK version of Texas and the Spice Girls still suck

I am actually in Blighty at the moment and staying at my brother in laws for a few days before on to Manc. There is a real friendly atmosphere here in London that makes the place seem much nicer than I remember!

*looks ashamed* to be honest it is as much to do with time as anything else. My wife's family (southern) is huge and mine (northern) is huger! It's our kids wedding and I am best man so there is little time for training. That said I an teaching at Spiders Web offtopic Thursday 16th - my only Apprentice outside Canada (Mahender Patel) runs it.

As a POI born in UK, it was a shame India missed out in the hockey and it was a huge upset for Sushil Kumar to get slammed by the Japanese fellow. Is there a reason India, with its huge population and variations of people, never wins as much as Russia,USA,China? The wrestling is very confusing, Pehlwani/Kalari is from India and Judo is popular there so i'm surprised India does not seem to do well in that. Is it because of the lack of organisation and money put into developing athletes? Going a little off-topic here but how come people like Gobar Goho, the Gamas and Dara Singh only did Pehlwani and quit/go to pro wrestling after winning titles? I assume Dara in particular won some legit titles first before pro wrestling.
Do you think Kumar should try offtopic because he'll be over 30 by the time of the next Olympics and a good wrestling background will carry you far in offtopic (if you don't mind getting punched, kicked, kneed and elbowed ;0) )

I consider myself British first so i'm extemely proud of team GB- 19-13-15 in 2008. Was hoping we'd get 2 up from last time in each but we smashed that and in 2012 we got 29-17-19.

Enjoyed seeing the legend that is Boris Johnson dance too haha

No thread drift intended so I will say only that I have been deeply disappointed in India for exactly the reasons you mentioned. India is the single largest Democracy in the World, a Political system that is always touted as the optimal environment for the Individual to be all that they can be. Every Olympics I have been stunned to see India's poor performance time and again and wonder what the problem is. It can't be Poverty, as there are plenty of people from African nations which are among the poorest per capita in the World. It can't be size; just look at Jamaica! I'm beginning to think that it might have Cultural underpinnings but I can't quite put my finger on it. Thoughts?

Best Wishes,

haha- seriously though, Kushti and Pehlwani should warrant a number of Indian wrestlers in freestyle

India'd also do well if cricket was in the Olympics-20/20 would be good

Aw c'mon, G.....whassamadder, you don't care for the insipid special-effects-driven offal coming out of Hollywood these days? Maybe you haven't been keeping up on current events. The TV is just as bad with its offering of "Reality TV" and the opinions of the Talking Heads. Think about it for just one moment. A multi-multi billion-dollar Industry and what you see is the Best of the lot. Think of all the crap that never gets out of the Cuttingroom. Ya gotta figure that stuff has to be REALLY bad. That I never have to suffer throught THAT craqp tells me that my God is a god of Mercy and Compassion!!

Best Wishes,

Bruce

I work for a media company.

Overheard a few days ago from a casting agent calling a potential vict...star.

"So, you're aware that you'll need to fund your own in order to come on the show? You've mentioned you don't work, can I ask where you plan to get the money?"

A short pause, followed by: "No, don't steal it, we can't condone stealing."
