As soon as school started the next day, Holly met up with her friends by the three water fountains. The school seemed to have been quieter than usual. It was as if something extraordinary had just happened. Holly pondered on what the news could be. She had a hunch that it had something to do with Savannah.
"Is anyone sick of the drama between Vanny and Nicole?" Danielle asked, idly flipping her Vogue magazine.
"Yes." Holly said. "I just talked to Vanny the other day. She wouldn't stop talking about what happened at Andy's party. I told her it wasn't a big deal."
"Are you kidding me?" demanded Elisha, her caramel eyes brimming. "Those girls were so gay! They had no right to talk to Vanny that way! Clearly they're trying to make her feel bad about herself."
"Tell me about it." chimed in Reese. "I mean, the girl already has an inferiority complex."
"Sush!" Holly hissed. "Here she comes."
They all turned around to see Savannah walking over to them. She looked more depressed than usual. Apparently she didn't feel like dressing nice that day, because all she wore was a basic, gray hoodie and dark-washed skinny jeans. Her hair was disheveled and Holly could see a little bit of sleep in her eyes as she got closer to them. But even though she was supposed to be horrible looking, Savannah was still gorgeous.
"Vanny, you got something in your eye." Danielle mentioned.
Savannah took her fist and started rubbing at her eyes. When she was finished, her eyes looked big and puffy. She looked as if she hadn't slept in days.
"Hey, Holly." she greeted, sitting down on the floor. "I just wanted to apologize for what I said to you the other day."
"It's okay." Holly said. "How are you feeling?"
"Horrible." she said bluntly. "I couldn't sleep at all. I only got thirty minutes of sleep."
Reese whistled. "That's insane. Why don't you go down to the nurse and tell her you're not feeling well. She'll let you sleep for a while."
"Planning on it." Savannah said, leaning her head on Holly's shoulders.
Holly suddenly felt bad for her. She clearly wasn't in the right state of mind. It seemed like everything was falling down in her world. A few months ago, Savannah was the sweet, sprightly girl who didn't seem to know how to stop laughing. Now she was just a shadow of her former self.
"You know, Erica and Jennifer are losers." Elisha said. "You're an awesome person, you're beautiful, and everyone loves you."
"Including us." Reese put in. "So don't cry over this. If you don't talk about it, it'll go away."
Savannah smiled wanly. "Thanks, guys. You're the best."
Just then, Aaron, Lucas, Maris, Andy, and several other people came over to them. Andy's eyes trailed towards Savannah, but they immediately averted way from her. Holly rolled her eyes. Savannah and Andy needed to kiss and make up. They were being a little bit too immature.
"What's up, sluts!" Andy said.
Believe it or not, Savannah was hurt that she was the only one who wasn't addressed by that.
"Hey..." the girls said, bored.
Holly looked at Savannah who was now looking down at the floor. She knew she had to get the two to talk. It was unnatural for Andy and Savannah to be angry with each other. Everyone knew they were best friends to the end.
Sensing the tension between Andy and Savannah, Holly improvised. "Hey, Andy! Look! There's Vanny! Your friend who you love so much and dearly!"
Andy just made a flat face and turned to face Lucas. He didn't want to say anything to Savannah. He had rather do other things than associate his time with her. Holly sighed. She wasn't giving up that easily.
"Starsky & Hutch: The Return of Disco and Cheech & Chong Part 3." she said.
A look of recognition appeared on both Andy's and Savannah's faces. Around last November, they had done skits on Youtube called "Starsky & Hutch: The Return of Disco and Cheech & Chong Part 3". It sounded dumb, but it was actually quite fun in a ridiculous kind of way. The videos pretty much brought them closer.
"I remember that!" Lucas said. "Especially episode thirteen. Classic."
Savannah shivered at the unpleasant memory. "Both of my hands healed and the scar on Andy's forehead is inconspicuous."
"Thanks for the reminder." Andy muttered under his breath.
"But you guys did have good times, didn't you?" Holly said.
Andy shrugged. "I guess. The comedy sketches were hilarious. Like the time Palma and I were dancing, and we both tripped over...a...bean...bag..."
Suddenly, Andy's expression changed. The look on his face e
