Hello

Im from Europe and I am writing an essay about the texan stereotype which is portrayed in hollywood movies, with english and psychology as the two main subjects. I would like to know if anyone can contribute with some knowledge about the origin of this stereotype (the loud talking cowboy) and direct me to some articles or something which i can use as references? Thanks.

have you ever been to Texas? I can tell you that Texas really hasn't changed much since its heyday during the 18th century- it's still a rough n' tuff wasteland, even if there are big cities there these days- very hot, and all the cowboys and gunslingers drive around in trucks and SUVs these days instead of getting around on horseback. The mentality is essentially the same (seriously), and I get the impression that roughly 60% of certain Texans are still fighting both the Civil War and the battle of the Alamo. This is probably where that stereotype comes from- certain people who live there today have carried on the traditions and ways of their predecesors, and hollywood has simply picked up on that. Don't mess with Texas! YEEHAH!!!!!

Put a Texan in NYC and see what happens... the last guy got robbed and just left him with his guitar, boots and underwear....
