Other than asking him, what is a way to tell if my mate is gay?

I'm 17 and straight, I'm not really homophobe, but I want to know
This is why I suspect him:
He has bodybuilder magazine pile in his loft, he doesn't even lift weights
He has lost touch with many of his male friends and talks to females now
He stopped playing ice hockey and rugby

pfft, way to just stereotype gays, a lotta straight guys act gay-ish, but that's just how they act. he could be gay, but the only real way to know for sure is to either ask him or to see him with another guy ... that's about it.

well, if hes on the gaydar at all and you think hes a stealth bomber your ONLY option is asking. He's probably not comfortable with it yet but eventually he'll tell you if he is gay. you're fine whatever happens though

None of those examples necessarily mean anything. Sounds like if you really want to know you'll have to ask him. Be prepared for a volcanic eruption if his answer is no though...
