Our 2006 Chrysler 300 started multiple times and died and now it won't start anymore?

There's an anti-theft alarm that we didn't know was on the car. There was a little red light flashing on the dash. I heard that it could be a bad ignition key or a broken SKIM module. It says to have a locksmith see if they can make and program another key. Would a spare key maybe work with it?
And would the spare key have to be reprogrammed too?
