Painting my truck a different color?

i have a 2000 Forf F-250 deiselk truck that i just bought. it is white in color. i dont like white but i bought the truck at a great deal. it is like new condition. i want to paint it a different color. my question is would it be a bad thing to do by yourself? i dont have a lot of exerience with painting but am eager to learn. Maybe i should pay someone else to do it but i dont want to pay an arm and i leg for a shop to do it. Im looking at maybe blue or midnight blue, possibly black in color. Anyone know what this might cost? does color matter as far as price? i heard red is the most expensive.
 
unless you have alot of money to spend i would just leave it white. it is a real hassle to prep a vehicle for paint becuase you have to reomve all the trim and tape off all the windows. if you are just painting it to change the color i would just leave it. but if you really want it done and done well, take it to a shop because it is really hard to get a good paintjob without a paintbooth
