Pairing an old bluetooth headset?

I have an Emerson E230 bluetooth headset (http://www.buy.com/prod/emerson-em230-bluetooth-mini-wireless-headset/q/loc/111/204392247.html) and I can't get it to pair with my iphone. I set the bluetooth on, but can't seem to put the headset into pairing mode. I tried holding the power button for a while, but nothing happens. After about 3 seconds of holding the power button, the device turns on (blue light flashes). After another 5 seconds or so the device turns off (red light flashes). I've tried holding the volume keys in conjunction with the power button but they don't seem to affect anything. I need help!
