That sounds pretty lame too.

Neither interests me in the slightest. But I could see how, if I were a parent, a forum or group could be a place to share information and support.

I've known a number of people who have chosen never to reproduce, but none of them ever expressed a desire for a support network because they felt like social outcasts.

I just don't get it (maybe I need to join facebook to really understand )

For me I don't like any group that's main past time is attacking people. Especially when its a case of quoting poeple who aren't part of the group and basically laughing behind their back. Or, as a lot of groups seem to do, hunting out especially dumb/extreme examples from the opposite side and using them to tarnish the entire group. I've seen abortion and pro life groups do that a lot, and athiest ones are quite prone to it too.

Completely off tpic but the other issue I have is people who spread that sort of hate and its unnecessary. I've used the example of abortion groups before on this but its the easiest one to use: I see abortion groups repeatedly find really dumb pro lifers quotes, post them up, and then everyone has a chuckle ripping them and feeling superior. My problem with that is its pointless and just getting fun out of hate. I've seen pro gay groups do it to some extent as well, but I kind of get it more then because they're actively trying to gain support for a cause. Abortion's legal. There's no real fight to be had there in most countries so stirring up hate serves no purpose. And if there IS a fight to be had then the groups aren't doing anything to help. They're closed groups that you only join if you already agree with them or if you want to troll them. They're not having disucssion to try and change people's minds, they're preaching to the choir. Instead of that they could be engaging in civil debate with the other side, or organising events or sometihng depending on the cause. If you're passionate about a subject there's more productive ways to express it than back slapping.

Plus its comparitively inneffective. You can get someone in a tizzy about something but they'll quickly perk up and move on. Hate and anger alone aren't enough to cause change, you need hope. The "It gets better" group in my sig is an awesome charity for helping young gay people feel okay about being gay and get support for coming out. Their fb group could post up the many stories about young gay people being bullied or attacked and try to stir up enough anger to make people want to support change. Instead they post up success stories from people who maybe had a rough start but are now doing well. Those happy stories create hope instead and are a much more powerful force for catalyzing change.

I have gone way way off on a tangent but that's my personal problem with childfree groups. Obviously it extends to any parent group who rips into people for choosing to be childfree as well.

A group patting themselves on the back for being happy doesn't seem as bad to me. We do it on this forum quite a lot, expressing happiness and solidarity over a hobby we all enjoy. Its not as destructive as if we were an offtopic only forum who spent all our time ripping into tma guys if that makes sense?
 
I have to admit going to the local soft play centre is a nightmare. Everywhere you go it's just shooting out of both ends, it's like running no man's land.

A ballon popped the one day and this kid just rocketed into the air with fright. Round the spinning toys they go, off they get and projectile vomit over the nearest table. Of course the rain coats and brollys are up as this is part of the course.

But then you never are sure if that's chocolate sprinkles in your cappuccino or what the kid from the table over sprinkled as he used the monkey bars overhead.

Don't ever pick one up if they fall because all they ever do is just pee all over you.


I just wear a bin bag now.
 
i seen that too with the abortion groups and atheist groups (i didnt join an atheist group cause im agnostic)

But i have seen it. I have done no such thing as that though.

I am not a nice person cause I dont wanna be around if someone craps on the floor? wow.
 
I think his point was more to do with overlooking such things so as to provide someone with the appropriate level of care and to help them have some dignity.

You know? Greater good and all that.
 
Yeah, well, I'd be happy to let another person take care of it. Obviously they need care. I just don't wish to do it.

No, you were called "not a nice person" because you had the temerity to tell your parents that if they ever have serious health issues, you won't help them out because you think it's too gross. Makes me glad you weren't my kid. Of course, my kids were raised to not waste time whining, and to have a healthier attitude toward other's differences.
 
All of us have had our excretia cleaned-up for us, and any of us may need it doing again in the future.

I'd be horrified and heart-broken if my loved ones (especially ones who I had cleaned-up the poo of) never came to see me again if I lost control of my bowels, or I succumbed to dementia.

I don't get the "wow", it's plainly not nice behaviour.
 
Mine know full well that I wouldn't be like that.

I'd ship them off to a home and visit them once a month and at Christmas and a birthdays (mine).
 
I wasn't trying to say you take part in it, I was just giving my personal take on why I'm not a fan of such groups.
 
I would have to go through myself to see who started it.

But Blade has defended the comparison as being equivalent on several subsequent posts.

I'm a leftist/communist/eeeebil socialist and people need help according to their needs. I would help to arrange help. I dont believe anyone should go without help that they need.

That and I really care about my parents muchly.

I could be wrong but I bet you never really had some really with my views onkids before thats actually willing to talk about it. Sounds like you never really had it, because of how I had mappers climbing all over me. They're coming out my ears.
