So, I want to go to an anime convention as France from Hetalia sometime in the future (next year most likely)
However... it costs alot..and my parents don't like anime..or manga.. or anything from that genre frankly.
I'm trying to figure out how to go about this.. do i sneak around? Or do I tell them? How would I tell my closed-minded, control-freak parents?
Should I just trust that being a junior next year will make them lay off me or should I start breaking in the subject now?

My parents don't like anime either. They constantly tell me it's a waste of time and money. Yadda, yaada, yadda. I just tell them about local conventions and they let me go as long as I have my cell and I call them every once in a while. I don't think there's a way to sneak around but maybe you should speak to them. It's your hobby so why not let you enjoy what you think is interesting? My parents are also close-minded but somehow I manage to get around (please don't ask how for I have no idea) o.o

I'm a junior this year and my parents are still limiting my freedom but not too much. I think you should start first speaking about the subject now then maybe by junior year you have been given absolute freedom and permission to go to the convention as well as gained some trust.

ugh, parents are such fun-suckers!! :(

i'd just say it was a concert or something like that. it all depends on what you think and the risks you want to take though. if you do decide to lie about it, keep it simple and close to the truth; say something they want to believe, without making it too rediculous.

if you have any friends that go to cons, ask your parents if you can spend the night at their house for a couple of days. but instead of doing that, you'll be at the con. just save up and you'll be all good to go!

Don't sneak around, it will only cause trouble. Try and find a cheap costume or make one yourself, and explain to them that it's important to you. If you go to concerts/festivals, tell them it's not much different from that. Good luck and I hope this helps.
