It's the very last question on my study guide, but I'm not quite sure of the answer.

A ball is traveling horizontally at velocity vi. It is then struck by a stick, making it travel vertically at velocity vf, which is less in magnitude than vi. What direction was the force exerted on the ball by the stick?

a) left
b) straight up
c) to the right at about 45 degrees to the vertical
d) to the left at about 45 degrees to the vertical
e) to the left at about 30 degrees to the vertical

Help will be greatly appreciated! And please don't just answer telling me to do my own work. I've worked hard to finish the rest of my homework on my own, but I only need help on this one.
