Hi, I'm a student pilot currently in college hoping to have my ATP license within four years. I'm looking for a plane I'd like to buy in the not too distant future, one that would be able to transport me as well as my family of six and several hundred pounds' worth of luggage so we can save money on trips and such. My current favorite is the Douglas DC-3, the taildragging warbird turned transport plane after WWII, but I'd also like to consider other options. Main priorities are long-range and high payload, like I said six people and several hundred pounds of luggage, around 1,500 punds total payload (ballpark figure). Can anyone else make any recommendations? Someone with personal experience or some kind of firsthand knowledge in this field would be greatly appreciated. Also I'm not made of money, so let's keep turbines out of the discussion, let's stay with single- or multi-engine prop planes. Many thanks.
P.S. I can appreciate how much effort it takes to copypasta from the Wikipedia page. Please don't do it here. I have been to Wikipedia already. It hasn't helped.
