porting cellphone number (from Rogers to Virgin)?

I wanted to port my current number over to Virgin mobile so I gave Rogers one month notice before my contract ends. Then I signed up with Virgin 3 days before the termination date.

Then Rogers says I have to pay extra monthly fee for 30 days from the date I ported out the number. They say that is the rule. Is that true?
