problems with 3g capabilities - motorola droid?

I had to get a new phone due to the fact that my previous droid had a defect. Anyway, my droids 3g capabilities have been good since yesterday, where I found out that I can get onto the internet. I'm relying on wifi now. I've tried *228 (2), rebooting, taking out the battery and rebooting. Nothing. My brother has the newer motorola droid and his 3g is running perfectly. Any help?
