Problems with smoke areas in pokemon emerald while using no$gba.?

Whenever I go into a smoke area such as the fourth gym leader or Mt. Pyre the only thing you can see is the smoke characters, items and obstacles(such as trees to cut down) how do I make the scenery and grass etc. show up.
