protools program question?

I have a friend who made a song using protools on a mac and the song started off and how do you on protools get the guitar song to just be in left speaker then right speaker then play in both the rest of the song. I was wonder what do you exactly do in the protools program to get it to go left speaker then right speaker?
 
You need to use an automation fuction.

Don't remember exactly, but you need to find automation and then as you play the song you can drag the pan to the left speaker then to the right as the song plays on.

You need separate tracks if you want to do this with each instrument, by the way.
