ps3 backwards compatibility question.?

Why does my 80gig (new version) ps3 have memory card save utility thing for ps1/ps2 and it doesn't play ps2 games?
 
becuase it was a feature they removed because too many people woudl buy a ps2 version of a new game and play it on the ps3 to save money. sony lost a lot, so they removed the feature. all ps3s will play ps1 games though. the file is still there just because it means games other than ps3. so it will say ps1/ps2 because consoles used to play both (like the old 80GB) but now ps3s only play ps3 and ps1. they just havent removed the ps2 part in the writing i guess
