PS3 update freezes when i try to update it?

i got a PS3 for my birthday. I try to play games online and it says an update is available. i will try to update it but the update freezes. My ps3 doesnt freeze just the update bar. if i cancel it it will sign me out. How do i fix it. ITS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

u better call Sony first. b/c if u try to do sumthing urself, it will void the warranty. if all else fails (text-support) ur gonna have to send it in. i've never had that problem b4 with my PS3.
