So the kid wants both for his birthday (not to mention a laptop, mp3 player, Iphone... etc) but it's not in the price range. The PSP or DS isn't really in the price range but we're trying. The factors I am considering are:

The DS:
+I (his aunt/sitter/friend) have a DS and so does his younger cousin, so we can all play games together.
+I have about 50 games for the DS, some I've never played (all were found in repo cars and given to me) so he has an ultimate library to choose from already-saving his single mom some serious money.
+He is into Pokemon/Digimon type things right now, but I don't see that lasting a long time. How many older kids play the DS? But I also think the DS has more age appropriate games for right now.
+The refurbished only costs 70.00 at Gamestop-again saving money.

The PSP
+Plays music, video-way cooler and might grow with him as God of War and such are on it. Also means more money spent on games and movies.
+90$ at Gamestop, refurb. More money, more features-probably more likable.

At the age of 10, what do you think? If I were 10, I think I would want the PSP-I've asked and he can't choose. I think the DS would save money for a while but may be outgrown. Ugh.

Wait till the newer consoles get cheaper. They're coming out with a new psp and they've already come out with a new DS. You're better off getting the 3DS.

The reason I'm telling you to get a newer console is because within 2 years they won't make new games for these consoles anymore.

more of a DS lite
3 reasons for not getting PSP
1.it can go online he can get in to things like porn
2.he can get "inappropriate" music
3. he might want a underworld movie and there's sex in that.

i would get him the ds im 17 and if you put a pokemon game in front of me ill still play and enjoy it the psp is for more of the older group seeing as its a ps2 1/2 in a handheld system but its up to you

I know that I got my first DS when I was 8 years old, and sometimes I will still pull it out every once in a while and play it. But one thing that may make you lean more towards a DS is that right now, they are making updates for that device. Theres the new 3D one, larger screen, and new games always coming out, and although you may not get the new device, the new games would be compatible. Plus, when he gets older, there are lots of games that are made for teenagers, so he can save up and purchase those if he likes. (: Good luck deciding, hope I helped!
