Psychologists & psych majors, is the very idea of hellfire scarring for a child?

I flushed a few psych people out of the bushes a minute ago, so I know you're there. Please comment: is it scarring for, say, an eight-year-old to have the image of eternal damnation placed in front of him? Could you place it on my child abuse scale from 1-10, where 1 is "Cultural relativism is my god" and 10 is "Humans should not be allowed to have children without years of intensive training".
