putting a used dvd burner on a computer?

I have a Toshiba Samsung TS-H552 dvd (stick guy) R/RW (DVD burner/rom) that i got from my broken emachine computer i tried installing it on a HP Pavilion a345w(windows XP) but i couldnt even get it registered ( could be a registry problem but dont know how to do that)on my computer..would my computer be even able to use it .. if so how/where do i start.. Please help got some dvds i wanna watch on my computer..lol..Thank you

make sure its plugged in correctly, the data and power cable. go into ur bios setting and look for hardware and see if it registered.

i know that was shitty help but yeh.. lol

has nothing to do w/ the registry.
toshiba and samsung are 2 different companies.
doesn't matter the source of the drive, it should work. if it doesnt' it may be defective/broken.
the possibility is that you have mis-installed it as well depending on your skills w/ computers, and takingyour quesiton at face value i would say this is jsut as liekly. if it's an ide,you need to be sure the master/slave jumper is correclty pplaced and that not all systems use the cable select well. as well as the fact that the bios could have the channel you wish to use inactive...
