I'm an aspiring writer, and I'm wondering something. With the advancement of technology such as the Kindle, self-publication is incredibly more abundant than it was some years ago. I do think it's possible that some of my work could one day end up on the silver screen.

I'm wondering a couple of things.

1. Has there ever been a book that was self-published that has been made into a movie? I'm interested in an actual adaptation, but if it's loosely based on the book, I would also like to know that.

2. How exactly does the process of turning a book into a movie get accomplished? I'm guessing it starts with a director or a film studio finding interest in a book, but that's just a guess, which is why I'm asking here :P

Any and all helpful information is greatly appreciated.

Some movies are written specifically for that medium, while others are book adaptations. At some point someone must convince an individual with some money it is worthwhile to produce a particular film. It's a lot easier to do if 1,000,000 copies of a book have been sold than if only 23 copies have been sold.
