question about samsung intensity?

Alright, so I have the cell phone, Samsung Intensity. I have a slight problem with it- It has been working great for the past 9 months, but for some reason, out of the blue, the power off button does not work (the red one). I am wondering what to do for this... Is there any way I can set/switch the power off button to another button so I can turn it off by pressing a different button??
If not, is it bad to just take the battery out?
 
hey i had that phone and it had other problems to...u hv to take it to verizon bc it has a software glitch and they will download an update...if that doesnt help ...you should dtill be under warranty and they will send u a new cell phone...but it will be the same phone u yhv now
