My finger nails curve really bad... I cant grow my nails out at all, and if I do they curve over my finger. One of my nails has always done it, but the rest have started doing it over the last couple years.

I asked my doctor about it, and he said it is something they see in heavy smokers, and that I need to quit smoking.

I do smoke, but I dont think I am a heavy smoker - less than half a pack a day (about 1/3 pack a day). I AM working on quitting. I have cut back and am at just a few cigs a day - about 3-5, but its a hard road to quitting, I can never seem to make it past day 3.

But anyways, I am wondering... if my smoking is causing my nails to do this, should I be checked for lung cancer or copd? I did ask, they said no. But I am confused about how my lungs can be so damaged that its causing my nails to curve, but not have other problems.

I just dont want to find out I have cancer until its too late to consider treatment. Should I push for testing?
