Question about standing up while riding stationary bike?

If I stand up, instead of sit, while on my stationary bike, is that almost the same workout as running?

Also, could that wear out the pedals?

Thank You!!!

It's not the same as running and it would probably be really hard, and it would wear the pedals out but depending you could break them off if thats what you mean

why don't you just get a tredmill if you want to run

It's not the same workout.
a. it's less strain on your shins and ankles - no shock of your weight crashing down
b. it puts more emphasis on your upper thighs, so you'll get a more aggressive workout
1. you'll be working out your largest muscle group more intensely
2. you'll raise your heart rate faster because it's more difficult to pedal a bicycle this way

:-) have fun

It probably won't wear out the pedals, but it won't wear you out either. It's not very close to running at all. it's not as large of a range of motion, and it is much less stressful on the calves and legs in general.

In a lot of spin classes, an instructor will have you getting up and going back all throughout. Often while standing they will have you increase the resistance to simulate a hill, then have you return back to your seated position at the original resistance.

As for the muscle groups, it does work similar group as running, through not completely the same.

And as for wear and tear on the pedal you have nothing to work about. I work maintenance at a fitness club, with 4 spin classes a day, and 6 on weekends. Over the last year and a half, I've only had to change pedals on 2 bikes, so it is safe to say you have nothign to worry about
