When my brother had verizon, he had the unlimited web added to his phone. But instead of him just paying however much it was for unlimited, it ended using his minutes so he had to switch to some data thing for web. I want to make sure that T-mobile's unlimited web won't use the minutes if I got it.

You don't use minutes when you use data. whatever your brother told you, you misunderstood. They are two completely different things, and they don't even use the same signal.

If you want to use the Internet on your phone, you have to add a data plan. And I don't think T-Mobile offers an unlimited data plan on family accounts for $10. I have a T-Mobile family plan and we don't have anything like that.
