Alright so I've done some extensive research about Americans and British people ( ;-] ) . It seems like "Americans" have a hard time understanding sarcasm, satire, etc and for that British people seem to think we're slower. It could also have something to do with our failing test scores and that the average citizen doesn't know the difference between there, their, and they're. But "besides" that, we're swell folks. For British people, it seems like you have a hard time grasping sincerity. I can't tell you how many arguments i've gotten into, or just being blatantly ignored, for just being myself to the wonderful people that make up the UK. I've frequented Wales and England but i'm afraid I can't make much judgment about Northern Ireland or Scotland. Generalizing in itself should be taken with a grain of salt, so don't put "too" much thought into this question because this isn't the case for everyone. I was just wondering a number of things, so answer as little or much as you'd like!
1. Would you say people where you live frequently joke?
2. Do you find someone slower for not understanding sarcasm, irony, etc?
I ask because British people used to confuse the hell out of me. I went from a pretty sincere, face valued place to constant underlying meanings and irony. It was madness! Love the UK now and I understand that it's almost better not to be "friends" off the bat like a lot of Americans do. It makes for a more honest relationship! Sorry if I tortured anyone with my extremely long and slightly pointless question. Just curious. Cheers! x
