rangemaster cooker, funny burning smell then a loud electrical pop?

we had the cooker about 2years 3 months and just now it started to smell funny in the kitchen then we realised it was the cooker it was a sort of burning smell then there was a loud electrical pop and it turned off.

what could have happened a loose wire or overheated? it was only on for about 5 mins.
 
Perhaps the cable was not capable of carrying the power load. They can go after a while. Ours did.
