Okay, how about this. Why are scripture references included in an argument about the psychological necessity of deities, or of the history of religion, or in a question of the integrity and origin of the Bible?

Because some people ask "what does the bible say about..." or "why do Christians believe..." or any range of topics covered in the bible a very long time ago. I often use bible quotes merely to establish that I am not simply making things up.

Providing quotes from the bible is in most religious discussions appropriate. If I were to answer (as I have inf act many times) a question regarding "the psychological necessity of deities" I might quote some thing or another regarding Molech from the bible. To a question about "the history of religion" I might quote some thing or another from the bible along with my answer. To a question about the "the integrity and origin of the Bible" I might quote the same verse from several different sources to prove the antiquity of the bible. It goes on and on.

I believe what you might be hung up on is not Christian answers to questions (which I agree many are off-topicand inappropriate) but rather the atheist myth of the Christian who cannot possibly give a well-reasoned answer to any question whatsoever but can only quote from the bible.

That is their back up plan for believing in their god. Whenever we show them doubt, they turn to this for reinforcement for their beliefs. They fail to see we can also show them doubt in that as well. That is why we say it is delusional.

That's our source. We do that to show you that's Gods words, proof to what we are saying is true.

You must be like me; you just can't see the bible from the perspective of a brainwashed Christian. If you could, I'm sure you'd think bible verses contain secret mysterious information that can be used to solve all of life's problems.
