The world has had many religions come and go down through the ages, how is today's Religion (Catholic, Hebrew, Islam, Hindu, Buddhist etc) any more important that the ones that have long gone and died out?

I can't wait to see your answers.

L2History, Christianity only got far because of the many inquisitions, it was either be a Christian or die,.. THATS how it got far

No religion is Truly important. Only those that appease the masses the most have survived. Religion was implemented to explain what we as humans could not, such as why earthquakes occur, or why the heavens spew forth such dangerous winds. However, as time has progressed, our understanding of the universe around us has grown, leaving religion obsolete. Also note, that the truly enlightened intellectual and educated men do not embrace religion, and that is because they understand that religion only exists to assure the weaker minded individuals that there is someone they can fall back on, and that death is not the end. Hopefully, everyone will understand this in time. However, i do not "bash" religion, and if you decide to believe in a Deity, that is absolutely fine.

Only God is forever so of course our understanding of God will change. God doesn't.

You left out Christianity and it is different because it gives eternal life to those who believe in Jesus Christ, and none of the others do.

The Religions of "today" are important simply because they matter to the living of today.
In a thousand years time, the Religions of today will seem as quaint and odd as the cult of Mithras does to the bulk of the population, today.

Religions don't 'go' anywhere, they're simply stamped on and swept aside by the new order. Take Christianity as an example. There are still Pagans, Druids and Wiccans in the world, Christianity gained the most publicity and support by military force.
