Rim and tires comparison?

Greetings. What are the differences between the following wheels: 215/40 R18, 215/40 R17, 225/45 R17? I currently own the 215/40 R18 and I believe that 18 inch rims TOO BIG for this cars' horsepower. I've been considering replacing them for one of these 2:
215/40 R17, 225/45 R17. Will my car accelerate any faster if I do this? Is this change worth it? If yes, why? Please help. Thanks in advance.

it depends on the weight of the new wheels. If your 17's are lighter than your 18's then it might help a little with acceleration. But there are lots of 18's out there that are lighter than 17's so...it's hard to say.

No the change isn't worth it. For the difference in acceleration you would get, it would not be worth it. Your better to spend the money on an ECU tune, or exhaust and cold air intake. That will give you more power and better acceleration with your larger wheels. You would notice that more than you would the smaller wheels.
