Hello,
I hooked up my sister Samsung laptop (running windows 7) to her TV , after we were done we shut it down but i stupidly forgot to 'Deactivate' the second monitor in the display settings.

Now when the laptop is turned on after logging in the screen is black but i can still see and move the cursor.
I have tried to plug the VGA cable back into the laptop and monitor but it was still the same and i cant find any answers online.

Any one know of a way to sort this out?

Thanks

It doesn't sound like an issue with the display settings at all, it sounds like a service like user profile login is failing to initiate properly, giving you the black screen with the cursor.

especially if the laptop is displaying everything else fine up until that point.

You can try this, hitting F8 while the laptop is starting up will give you a black screen with several options. The first one I would try is start with last known good configuration, if that doesn't work I would select repair your computer, and restore to the most recent time before this issue happened. None of your sisters pictures or music will be effected, just windows.

If that doesn't work, through repair mode you can select to go into the cmd prompt, once in the cmd prompt type chkdsk /r, let that run and repair any problems it finds. then type in sfc /scannow, let that run, and insert a windows or recovery disc if it asks for one.
