Soldiers go into a haunted house which turns out to exist in other dimensions so there are creatures not from this earth who try to east them or kill them.
They can't escape, the doors lead to other places in the house.
In the beginning there is a physicist and his daughter(?), and she narrates how he told her once that no object actually touches another object, but instead the atoms of two objects come close to interacting but never actually touch.
I'm not writing the book, I can't remember the name or author, I read this a long time ago. Just trying to find it again.
