I'd hate to buy a BLU_RAY BURNER and the 20GB N 50 GB Discs to Archive YEARS of family pics+Movies and find Blu-Ray Dollar_for_Dollar to be just as slow as DVD and the same Speed Burning compared Dollar to Dollar.

So is Blu Ray Burner's a good idea?????

thanks a lot people of Internet World.

I couldn't find data about the expected lifetime of a recorded blu-ray.

But a test of recorded DVDs showed an estimated lifetime of 2-15 years, and the same test showed that older and lower-capacity recorded CDs had an estimated lifetime of over 15 years.

This seems to indicate that higher data capacity means a shorter lifetime. If that rule holds for recordable Blu-Rays too (which seems to be a safe guess), then they might not even last as long as DVDs.

Still, get a Blu-Ray burner anyway unless it costs a lot more than a DVD burner; it'll still be able to burn DVDs (and CDs) too.
