Should I buy a blue ray player or a playstation3?

Me and my family are getting a new tv and sound system so we are going to upgrade to a blue ray player. My brother and I would like to play games on the ps3 but my dads concerned about us playing on his dvd player. Which one do you think would be a better bet?
 
I used to be concerned about getting a ps3 as a blu-ray player, but now that I got it, I now think this is my best choice.
 
Best Blu-ray and DVD for the money, OPPO BDP83. It will run you 500 bucks, but it's worth every penny. Your dad's dvd will look a lot better on it then the PS3. It it is also one of the fastest loading player on the market (second to the ps3)

I would keep the ps3 in your room and have the OPPO player in the living room. There will be time when you want to play video game, and your dad want to watch a movie.

The only problem I had with the PS3 was it over heated. You need to leave it in a well vented area. But I'm sure the new PS3 running for about 300 bucks will run cooler. But like I said, keep the system separate and you will have no fights over who want to watch a movie or play games.
 
my opinion is go for the ps3. it will do almost anything you could ask of this type of product. and no, playing games will not affect the dvd player. i use mine for both and have had no problems over the 2 to 3 years i've had it. you will need a digital optical cable to run sound from the ps3 to the sound system and hdmi cable to run picture to tv, so don't forget those as well. i hear monoprice.com has them for good prices.
 
PS3 makes the most sense. Dad shouldn't have any worries unless he wants to watch a movie while you are in the middle of a game.
 
definately ps3 bro hands down .. i mean even if u jus want a normal blue ray player ur gonna pay 600-700 for it so u might as well jus get a pretty sweet blue ray player that does it all browser games netflix etc
