I currently have a 2006 Nissan Frontier Truck. It's a 4 cylinder and I pretty much hate it everything about it. It only gets 15-20 mpg which is horrible for a 4 cylinder. It doesn't have much room on the inside and you practically have to floor board it if you want to pass someone going more than 45mph. The good side is it only has 55k miles on it, and I only owe on it for another year and it will be paid for. The major downside is it's in the shop right now though and it will cost a little over 1k to fix it (steering wheel bearings are stripped) and it needs new tires which is another $500 at least. This is the 3rd thing that has went wrong with it mechanically in the past year.

I am thinking about buying a used 2006 Toyota 4Runner or a 2007 Chevy Tahoe. They both have about the same amount of miles as my truck has and my car payment will be the same or less than what I am paying now. Both of them also have all the options that I want. The Kelley Blue Book value on my truck is $7,800, and I am already pre-approved to finance a new car at 4% APR because I have really good credit for my age. I don't have anything to put down so I am planning on trading my truck in towards the new car.

I am having a really hard time deciding if I should pay to have it fixed and keep it hoping nothing else goes wrong with it. (If I do that I am planning on saving up for a few years after it's paid off and buying a a low mileage used 4runner or tahoe.) Or should I just trade my truck in to the dealership I want to buy from so all the repair costs are their problem. If I did that I could trade it in for something that I like and is more reliable, but I will be stuck with a car payment for 5 more years. If I do trade it for what I want I am planning on keeping the car I get for at least 8-10 years. I have no idea what to do and the part for my truck will be in within the next few days. What should I do? Please help!

Oh yeah and I already checked with my insurance company and the two vehicles I am looking at will cost the same to insure as the truck I have now.
