I want to start commuting to school, its about 10 miles one way. I have a nice trek road bike that I spent over a grand on, but don't want to take it to my college due to the high number of bike theft. So I was thinking to buy a cheap bike that I wont have to worry about being stolen. Since most cheap road bikes always need constant maintenance I decided to go with a fixed gear/single speed. With upgrading the tires, saddle, and bar tape to my liking, it will come out to close to 300 bucks. Is this bike worth me spending a total of 300 bucks on? Or should I just look for a quality vintage road bike and convert it to a single speed?
