I have a 55 gallon tank with an oscar in it that I recently converted over to sand. The oscar kicks a lot of the sand up when he is bored and I think it killed one if my regular power filters (started making a really loud humming noise). I tried to clean it out still loud ANYWAY I want to get a new filter.
I was told canister filters aren't as likely to be damaged by sand. Is this true? If so I am interested in this filter http://www.petco.com/product/2399/Marineland-HOT-Magnum-Hang-On-Tank-Convertible-Canister-Filter.aspx?cm_mmc=bazaarvoice-_-RLP-_-2399-_-description_link#description-tab What are your thoughts on this filter and is this the best for my money? Thank you!
