Vegas handles millions if not billions of dollars on sports betting. Usually it's next too impossible to fix any type of sport. I think boxing and MMA are an exception, all it takes is one Vegas rep to approach one of the fights in private, pay them less than 1% of the total bets (probably more then a million), and bang it's a done deal. That being said, should we just make it out right illegal to bet on those sports from online betting sites and VEGAS?
I don't understand why people think a massive company who has primary interests in winning large, would not send a rep to make an offer in private.
I focus especially on MMA, most of these fighters are not very wealthy, they fight to survive and provide for their families. Throw a million their way, more than they stand to make winning or losing the fight, you really think they won't lay down?
Consider Vegas a lobby, why wouldn't they lobby to make sure they get the most amount of money? Sports are near impossible to fix, certainly not MMA, if you approach a poor fighter with more money beyond comprehension, what do you think will happen?
The Brock Lesnar fight is a perfect example, VEGAS odds were tremendously in his favor.
In general the fighters are already wealthy so they won't accept bribes.
MMA fighters are not wealthy, not by a long shot.
