I'm going to start looking for some good quality winter boots soon. I would like some boots that are comfortable and durable for backwoods winter backpacking and hiking for longer distances. How would snowboard boots work out for this?

It's been years since I've snowboarded so I don't remember how stiff the boots are, but I'm also considering getting back in to it, and it would be nice to kill two birds with one stone. From what I've read there are snowboard boots that are stiffer and others that are more flexible.

hiking boots would be a better option. snowboard boots will still make walking far more of a challenge. you would probably end up with sores and blisters if you tried to backpack through the woods with snowboard boots. snowboard boots are ment to be placed in bindings, not to hike long distances. even if they are the more flexible boots they still postiion your weight forward a little.

you'll be fine, i actually hike the park a lot in my boots when i don't feel like waiting in long chairlift lines. Once you get them broken in snowboard boots are very comfortable
