Something I've noticed about birracial celebs?

Why is it that even though they were raised by their white mother, they still hold the black father (who abandoned them) in high regard? and tend not to acknowledge or associate themselves with their white side?

Alicia Keys, Halle Barry, and Barack Obama (yes, I see him as more of a pop-culture media figure than a professional leader) are perfect examples of this.

Black fathers don't just leave biracial kids they leave black kids too...wtf!


But I do remember a actress who was biracial said she was white.........no whites supported her nor did blacks and her career was short lived..........if your biracial and say your black...you make it better and become more well known. Plus saying your black is more trendy. But saying your both is more cool too.



Plus Obama looks black to me and Halle Barry. Alicia keys I can tell she is biracial though. Tiger woods look black too......if he didn't say he was biracial not many would of known.



Edit: Becky is Britney everyone. Yes the gay Patrick who hates blacks is online... a little early.

Are you not aware that 99% of "blacks" in the US are biracial?
There is no racial "purity" anymore, thank god. The sooner we abandon the labels the better.

Alicia Keys acknowledges her mother and she knows she's half white it's obvious. I've never heard her call herself a black woman. She was raised in NY, where it's culturally diverse and she was probably around a lot of black people moreso then whites.


Halley Berry's MOTHER raised her to see herself as a black woman because she has the skin tone of a lot of black people.

Barack Obama - He doesn't downgrade his mother. He looks black so that's probably how he's been treated all his life I mean he was born in the 1960's when there was a lot of prejudice towards black Americans.

Looks like a light skin black guy I went to high school with.

Ablex Did you pull that statistic out of a$$, that's not true. Black Americans are usually 80-85% sub-saharan African that doesn't make them biracial.

yeah! i know!!! like Obama they call him the first black president but he's not even all the way black! but i mean its not a bad thing but what are they gonna say when there is a realy black president? "the first fully black president"??? weird

I honestly don't know but I know it happens all the time. As far a Barack goes tho I have to disagree. He always addresses his entire family black or white. He speaks about his mother and grandmother and seems very proud of his entire family black or white.

It's not like they are 'denying' their white mothers; but they relate to being black, because that is their experience in life- and this is how society has not only viewed them, but also treated and classified them. The black side is much more accepting of them, I'm sure their white peers weren't running around saying "Hey! your half white, your apart of us, sis, bro!" until they got celebrity status. (actually, more like until Obama became Pres.) but all their lifes, it was and still is the black community that said "Hey sis, bro!" and meant it. We all identify with one another. Many of the slaves were half white, but did that matter? nope.

add: Nigerian is correct in stating that in most cases their "mothers" raise them as black, which is wise. But, Alecia does claim to be black, and so what? she is.

also, when the chips are down, and they make a mistake, guess who still loves and accepts them? blacks.

They call themselves black because that's what they are. That's what they identify themselves as so leave them alone. Why all the rush and panic now that we have a black president to clarify race and what it means? I'm the exact same color as the president. Are you going to call me mixed race too? or when you see me walking down the street will you see a black woman?

Oh yay another white conservative who doesn't understand racial identification and how racism can bring people together.

As a biracial woman, I'm getting reeeaaall tired of people trying to say that identification and disrespect are the same things. They ARE NOT and NEVER WILL BE. I am seen as Black even though I am biracial. The fact that I call myself black does not mean I disrespect my Italian heritage or Italian dad in any way. I plan to visit Italy someday, I love my Italian family, I RESPECT my Italian heritage. If someone asks me or it's relevant I am fully open about being biracial and in fact identify as a biracial AND as black person.

I am not "disrespecting" my father in any way by calling myself a black person. My dad told me to identify as black like Halle Berry's mother becuase that is the way the world will see me. The seem to have understood a simple truth you people don't seem able to grasp. IF YOU LOOK BLACK YOU IDENTIFY AS BLACK. End of story.

And anyone who says differently is too caught up in RACIAL PRIDE. If you want babies who will proclaim how proud they are to be white then have babies with another white person. In this world I am treated and seen as black. I call myself black because I look black. Deal with it.
