my vivaz is receiving texts but when sending my message going straight to outbox & says will send in 3 minutes but after the three minutes it says same again, etc,etc resulting in no text being sent - please help Ive been onto all sorts of help sites including SE to no avail, Ive also checked with network provider (O2) & its not sim problem as sim works in other phone.
Hiya, Ive had phone from new since august 2010 & this problem only recent. happens whenever I try to send message wether it reply sms or new message. I have tried SE update & also tried to default (original settings) to find still the same - I have also checked all settings & cant see where the problem lies though I suspect it is something simple but cant figure it out

1. Has this problem always been the case? (if so, did you buy your phone new or second hand?)

2. If only recently, have you changed anything (possibly "mucking about" with settings on purpose or by mistake)?

3. In order to send SMSes, you need to have the (Global Title) address of the SMSC configured on the phone (it isn't stored on the SIM card).

Try to find out what you have got it set to (I don't have your phone, so I don't know what menu option) and compare that value with what you have got on other phones that the SIM works in.

4. You don't indicate if this happens all the time, or only when you are replying to messages, or only on new messages.

If it only happens with messages when you are replying to someone, do you have an option like "Reply via same SC" set to "YES" or "ENABLED"?

If so, set it to "NO" or "DISABLED", and see if this makes a difference.

It would be appreciated if you could post an update back here in answer to the points/questions raised above (regardless of whether or not they fix the problem - if they fix, it's nice to know which one was the cause of the problem; if they don't, the additional informaiton you give might help determine the cause).

You can update your question by clicking on the "Additional Details" button.

UPDATE:
Hmm, but you still haven't confirmed what the address is that you have got for your SMSC (it might be "message centre number") and what your Reply via same SC is set to.

If you are a contract O2 subscriber, the SMSC address should be set to +447802000332 (even if it says "Postpay SMS" as a profile "name", you need to make sure that the actual address value is as shown).

I don't know offhand the address for the O2 prepay SMSC (if it is in fact different to the contract one).

The only other thing I can think of is something my Nokia has, which is a setting called "Preferred connection", and it allows selection of either "GSM/UMTS" or "Packet data".

If your handset has got a similar option, make sure it is not set to "Packet data" - if you don't have a data plan, it won't work, and even if you do have a data plan, many SGSNs don't actually support SMS, so you should always have it set to GSM, UMTS or 3G to force SMSes through the VLR/MSC.

If (it turns out that) you've got the correct SC address and Reply Via Same SC set, then I can only assume that either it's a problem with your handset or a very intermittent problem with your local cell site (so intermittent that it just happens to fail when the SIM is in your Sony handset).

Again, please update if you can.
