sony ericsson w595 serious error stop charging message?

my girlfriend's phone has stopped charging after a certain point and flashes with a weird beeping sound saying "serious error stop charging", took the phone into an Orange shop and the man who seemed to know nothing of phones suggested buying a new charger.

since the phone man didn't explain jack sh1t i was wondering what your answers maybe oh wondrous Interwebs

the phone if not already realised is a sony ericsson w595 if that helps atall...

all suggestions are welcomed.
