I'm about to start backing up all of my DVDs (somewhere between 200 and 300 discs) so that I can sell the discs and still have the movies. I need advice on a reliable, large format storage device (probably around 2TB) that I can use to hold the files.

My plan is to use RipIt to rip the discs, then Handbrake to encode them so that I can import them into iTunes, which will then allow me to sync any movies to my iPhone and iPad, as well as access all of my movies on the fly from my Apple TV.

Would any of the available 2TB hard drives on the market be sufficient for something like this? What about online storage options? Thanks!

After you rip and encode a movie, its size will be something like 1-3GB depending on the parameters you used (I've done this for about a dozen movies for medium res on my iPod and they're about 1GB).

That means you probably won't need more than 1TB storage for even 300 movies.

As far as which drives are good, I can't tell you that - I would just always check reviews on sites like Amazon and Newegg before buying anything.

Regarding online storage, it's probably not worth looking at unless you are willing to pay for it (online storage solutions only give you a few GB unless you are willing to pay) - and regardless, backing up a TB will take quite a while!
