ive had 2 motorcycles in my life so far, one being a ttr 225 and then a kf250f. i went to a motocross school with the kawi and i ride all the time in the bush and such so i consider myself a pretty good rider. im 17 and im 6 ft 3 and weigh 170 pounds. the question though is that im looking to buy a street legal bike, most likely a sport bike. ive never driven one before but i think ill be able to handle it pretty well as i could handle a motocross bike. what would be the best size to get first? i dont wanna grow out of it in a week then want more power but i dont want too much at first. also i live in the bush on a 1 km packed gravel road, that wont be too much of a problem for a street bike would it?

Hey mate, go for a 600 first. You will be a better rider in the end. They dont have as much torque or horsepower but make up for it in agility. If you can ride a 600 well then not many people will be able to mix it with you in the bends where it really matters or the track for that matter!
Riding on dirt, well you need to be suttle with your throttle and I would go trying to put your knee down or you may end up getting down more than you bargained for!

Don't be a tight arse, buy yourself some decent leathers, boots and gloves. A back protector is a good investment as well.

Have fun,

Troy

I suggest a 600cc sport bike from any of the major Japanese builders. The gravel road will NOT be the best part of your ride, and a sport bike will feel sluggish in the off road. I usually suggest against these as they do not forgive newbies, but this does not apply to you according to what you said. However, if you have your heart set on a sport bike get one. Once you get on the paved surface, you will like it. Take it easy and get used to the new bike (i.e. Don't let your first ride be a deadly lesson that sport bike react quickly to rider input)
Good luck and ride safe.
