I'm learning to ride and I am looking to buy my first motorcycle, but I need some help on finding a bike that would fit size. I am 6 foot 170 pounds. I am looking to get a bike from 2007 and newer. Any recommendations?

A lot depends on where you live. I'm assuming you live somewhere in the US.

The smallest category of street motorcycles available in the US are 250cc. A 6-foot person might find one of these a little cramped. But it's very subjective, so the only way to tell is to sit on one and see how you feel.

Now a 250 is what everyone recommends as a trainer, because they're light and small and easy to manage. But a 250 can't really cruise at highway speeds. If you see yourself riding more than 5 miles on an interstate to work or whatever, you need at least 500cc and 650 would be better. That's bigger/heavier but you could handle it.

You want to stay away from the dedicated sportbikes like R6, GSX-R, CBR, etc. Those are not for beginners. Not easy to ride. You want a -standard-.

For instance, Honda 599, Kawasaki Ninja 500 or 650, Suzuki GS500 or SV 650, Yamaha FZR 600 'Fazer'. There are a lot of models in this category, check your local Craigslist to see what's available in your neck of the woods.

If you don't mind cruisers, they also make good first bikes. Honda Shadow, Kawasaki Vulcan, Yamaha Star, Suzuki Boulevard or C50. You could start on a 750 because cruisers have a lower center of gravity and they seem lighter than they are.

I'm a similar size to you and have ridden BMW GS's for years, local, national, international, etc., and can quite easily sit on it for hours with out any discomfort. There are lots of model variants in the GS range so check out your local B M dealer/s and see what's on offer. There easy to ride and to service and to maintain and basically do wot it sez on the tin.
Buy MCN wednesday local paper shop have a trawl through that, it's a bikin' paper.
