No. 1 Star: Martin Hanzal, Phoenix Coyotes

The Coyotes center netted his first two goals of the season in Phoenix's 5-4 win over the Anaheim Ducks. Hanzal scored the game's opening goal at 4:41 of the first period, cashing in a rebound into an open net. He tied the game, 2-2, later in the period on a long shot the beat Jonas Hiller (14 saves), the puck trickling through his pads.

No. 2 Star: Ryan Getzlaf, Anaheim Ducks

Well, looks like someone no longer wanted to be counted among the goal-less. Getzlaf netted two in the loss, deflected a feed from Teemu Selanne in the first and scoring another at 18:52 of the third with the Ducks' net empty. He was a plus-3 on the night.

No. 3 Star: Taylor Pyatt, Phoenix Coyotes

Pyatt factored in big time for the game's two most important goals. With the game tied 2-2, Pyatt went behind the Ducks' net and fed Boyd Gordon for his first goal as a Coyote. One minute and 40 seconds later, Adrian Aucoin kept the puck in the attacking zone and fed Pyatt, who made a nice touch pass to set up Lauri Korpikoski's goal to make it 4-2.

Honorable mention: Lubomir Visnovsky scored his first of the season, as did Kurtis Foster for the Ducks. … Keith Yandle's first of the season was the eventual game-winner, as the Coyotes defenseman scored 1:29 after Korpikoski in the second period. … Mike Smith made 29 saves in the win. Dan Ellis was 16-for-16 in relief of Hiller. … Gordon was 12-5 on faceoffs. … Andy Miele made his NHL debut for the Coyotes, playing 6:21 and earning his first NHL minor penalty for hooking.

Did you know? Referee Brad Watson worked alone because Steve Kozari was ill. (AP)

Dishonorable mention: Hiller was pulled at the 7:56 mark of the second period after giving up five goals, some of which were quite stoppable. … Both teams went scoreless on the power play. … Raffi Torres and Luca Sbisa had this tussle. Sbisa landed on top; Torres landed everything else.
