Which one is better, I commute 10 minutes to school, I'm 5'8" 130 lb if that matters, might drive in the winter, and tell me why? also include color preference if you like

i have always like Suzuki a lot but i really like the Kawasaki better...i like the way it looks better but i also think it fits me better it fits the kind of bike i like i think there more fun in my opinion and i like red

I would recommend the Suzuki for a number of reasons. First, I have always thought Suzukis were better made than Kawasakis. The 500 GS twins have always been good bikes, and they are very well-developed. With more ready torque than the 250, the 500 will easier to ride in traffic, and easier for a beginner to ride.

This is no knock on the 250 Ninja, it's just that I have had really good experiences with the Suzuki 425/450/500 twins.

I would avoid riding either one in the winter if you live someplace where they salt the roads. I would also think a dual sport bike might suit you better given your short commute and for winter riding on slippery surfaces.

I have a Suzuki GS500F, I love it, great experiences with it, I looked at both bikes before buying and the suzuki was just so much better for the money. If it snows in your area, don't ride it, the salt will be murder (well not really) for the bike. If it just gets cold in the winter and no snow, then it will just take a bit longer for it to warm up.
Hope this helps, ride safely.
