Taking my lap top on a cruise?

Im going on a cruise i want to take my lap top? Will i be able to use it when we dock. We are doing the med & canaries..Will i be able to use a dongle or have to use the ships internet connection..
This is my 13th cruise but i have never taken my lap top, but as we are away for xmas & new year i would like to keep in touch with my family..Any help please..

well on the cruise there's always wifi (but it isn't free!) and when you dock it isn't a guarantee that you'll always have reception. just send postcards. its the easiest cheapest thing to do!
