Teens: Why do some kids whine over a B or even a low A?

In my old school there was this girl that I saw crying really hard after she came out of her math class and her friend was comforting her. I overheard her speaking and she said that she is so dumb and that her life is over because she got a 89%...... I am sorry but really? Why do kids cry over good grades? It makes you wonder how they would act if they actually failed something. I actually had a C+ in that class and I was pretty happy.

lol I'm liek you I'm happy wit ha C+! My friend's mom though is really school freaky and makes her write essays when she gets a C. The only reason I start to cry is if I fail...:O

I am happy with my grades i have C's and B's. Maybe she has higher expectations or maybe her parents will get really mad at her. 89% I am proud for a grade like that lol. I know a girl who got a 92% on an exam and she took it again and got a 96%. I am jealous of her because she is extremely artistic, sweet, talented, and SMART. Well she is Asian though lol. My average is an 85% and I am okay with it.

Because maybe her parents were high over-achievers and pressure her all the time... or maybe she was trying to attract attention to herself by saying "look at me, i cry over an 89% which is good for most of you, aren't you jealous" #firstworldproblems.

Parents put too much pressure on us... I don't cry but I feel very ashamed in myself when I get a B

I'm in gifted.
And it's not only the parents, it's also teachers.
My science teacher was mad at the class because our average for the interim assessment was an 89% and we were supposed to get at least a 90%... :|

Its because the parents expect higher marks and are strict or the child itself has high expectations I never aim lower than an A A- or B+

Perhaps they have higher expectations for themselves than you. Or they want to go into a highly competitive program in post-secondary school or need to get scholarships.

Because we have high standards >.< And so do our families, our teachers, colleges... I had a 96.3 average this first quarter and I know I could've done better.

I cried when I got a 97% on a test once because I need a 98% to bump me up from a D to a C. I finished the semester with a 69.444 I just needed that 1 percentage point and I would have been golden...
