television outlet question?

Do you need the red cable in order to play xbox 360? I got a t.v. that has a yellow and white cable but no red? Can anyone answer this?
 
yellow is the video signal the other two are for stereo sound its sounds like you tv is mono so it will work but you will only get the right or left chanal depening which of the two other cables you plug in. If you have a HI fI system you could plug the white and red into it this would give you stereo sound but do not put the speakers to cose to the set as the manets in them can damage the tv if you do
